Scope of Works
Being stone masons for the past 150 years, L J Watts has vast experience in working all types and sizes of stone.
Operating from our Workshop and Showroom based at Priory Works, Priory Street, Colchester, we specialise in the supply, design and erection, of Monumental Masonry. All engraving to new memorials and added inscriptions to existing memorials are carried out in our Workshop in accordance to the lettering style selected, or to be matched.

Our skilled craftsmen are able to shape stone to client’s own design or we can design the layout from your ideas. Samples of materials, standard designs and styles of memorials, are available and on display at our showroom. Motifs can be incorporated with the design.
Our craftsmen are skilled in the removal and transportation to our workshop of memorials requiring a further inscription. Care is taken to match the style and layout of the new inscription to the existing.
Cleaning/Renovation
Memorials, tombs etc., which suffer from movement, weather deterioration
or which need repainting or regilding can be cleaned, raised, levelled,
or repaired. Some of the softer materials can be worked to restore them
to a nearly-new condition.
We are also able to design, supply, engrave, erect or renovate, all types of monuments such as War Memorials. See 'before and after' photos below. Note. We have intentionally obscurred the inscriptions on these images.
Residential Stonework
Stone work-surfaces, table tops, fire-surrounds, house names, etc can
be supplied either to our design or to the client’s own design.
Quotations
Free quotations for memorials, monuments, residential stonework etc. are given together with advice if required. Home visits are available if you are unable to visit our workshop and showroom at Colchester. Our quotations are valid for six months.

Client List
Our clients are mainly the general public, but also includes cemetery repair works for Councils and referrals from Chelmsford Diocese and Funeral Directors.
