Background


H & K Mabbitt was founded in 1930 and acquired by Bakers of Danbury Ltd in 1987. The Company specialises in the manufacture and installation of high-quality joinery and furniture for churches, cathedrals, museums, private clients etc. The Company has the ability to design for clients or, alternatively, work to architect's designs.

Workshop

The specialist Workshop is based at Danbury, just off the A414 between Chelmsford (5 miles) and Maldon (7 miles). The staff consist of highly-skilled joiners and one designer.

Type of Work

Work produced includes carved and glazed screens, windows, doors and frames, staircases, stalls and desks, memorial bookcases, presidential and clergy chairs, lecterns and pulpits, altars and credence tables, kitchen units, tables and chairs, fire surrounds, library fittings, wardrobes and cupboards.

Decorative work such as gilding is often undertaken. The design, manufacture, and repair of Village signs are a speciality.

Clients

Our client base includes County, Borough and Parochial Church, Councils and private clients. The Company is comfortable designing for the special needs direct for the client or working to Architect's designs. Repetitive work has been carried out for British Museum, St Paul’s Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds Cathedral, West Suffolk Hospital, Euro Disney, Harrods and private clients.

Recent Contracts

We have recently completed the new pulpit stairs and re-location of a Chancel screen at St Michael's Aveley, Joinery for the crypt at St Paul's Cathedral, benches for the British Museum and nurses reception desks for West Suffolk Hospital.

Village Signs

Village signs have been designed (when required), carved, decorated and erected for numerous villages. Repairs and re-decorations are also undertaken.
